There’s some pretty exciting updates happening with the Arrow of Light badge in Cub Scouts. It’s getting a major glow-up to better prepare Scouts for transitioning into Scouts BSA.

First off, Arrow of Light is now its own standalone badge separate from Webelos, and it’s specifically geared towards getting Cubs ready for the next adventure in Scouts BSA. They’ve even collaborated with Scouts BSA on all aspects of the program to make sure it’s top-notch.

Now, let’s dive into what’s actually included in the Arrow of Light Required Adventures. These aren’t your average tasks – Cubs will be learning about the patrol method, electing patrol leaders, creating their own patrol flags, reciting the Scout Oath and Law, and even visiting a Scouts BSA Troop. Plus, there’s a super important activity about child safety that they’ll do with their parents or legal guardians at home.

The whole program is designed to smoothly transition Arrow of Light Cubs into Scouts BSA, with requirements structured to align with joining a Troop by January or February. And get this – instead of just one Adventure focusing on Scouts BSA prep, the entire Arrow of Light program is geared towards this goal. That means by the time they’re rocking the tan Scouts BSA uniform in 5th grade, these Cubs will be ready to hit the ground running.

With these changes, there won’t be an Arrow of Light hat or neckerchief anymore, but Arrow of Light Scouts will proudly sport blue shoulder loops to show they’re on their way to Scouts BSA. And don’t worry about any uniform confusion – there’s flexibility during this transition period. It’s all about giving these Cubs the tools they need to soar into their next Scouting adventure!
