March Membership Update

Updated Adult Application Flow

A new process will be implemented beginning Monday, March 4th.

At that time, the adult application flow will change to require the completion of the Comprehensive Background Check (CBC) (results received) before the new Adult volunteer can assume a leadership role.

  • Once an adult application is processed (online or Add-Reg) the person is put in “pending.”
  • The adult leader will get an email notice informing them their registration is being processed and they are not to assume any leadership role until the completion of the CBC. The unit key 3 will also get an email.
  • If the CBC comes back as “red” then the normal process needs to be followed for the clearance of the person or the denial and refund.
  • If the CBC comes back as “green” the system will finish registering the person and send an email to the person and unit key 3 that they can now be an active leader.
  • Please keep in mind the CBC processing time and the impact that will have. For example, a new Adult application coming in the last day of the month for a recharter will not be usable until the CBC has cleared to “green”, which will be in the following month.

Membership Renewal Process

The membership renewal process is changing and there will be options for Family/Self Pay or for Unit Pay. Please reach out to your District Executive if you need assistance with this process.

Membership Fees

Effective April 1, 2024, the BSA will implement the following national membership fees which were approved by the National Executive Committee:

  • $0: one-time joining fee for new program participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouting ($25 decrease from 2023)
  • $85: for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting participants ($5 increase)
  • $65: for all adult volunteers ($5 increase)
  • $25: for Merit Badge Counselors (New Fee applies only for Merit Badge Counselors not already registered as leaders – No change)
  • $50: for Exploring participants Youth & Adult (No change)
  • $100: for a unit charter/affiliation fee (No change)
  • $15: for Scout Life magazine (No change)
