June Letter from the Scout Executive

The Scouting Community Stepped Up to Support those Impacted by the Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

I am excited to share some great news! Our fund drive for the “Bridging the Gap Fund” through the sale of our commemorative Francis Scott Key Bridge Council Shoulder Patch has concluded with resounding success. The bridge was more than just a structure; it was a vital connection for jobs, commerce, travel, and the daily lives of countless people in the greater Baltimore area.

When we first launched this fund drive on May 1st, our goal was to raise $10,000 to provide much-needed assistance to those affected by the devastating collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.  Within 48 hours of starting the fundraiser, we were able to surpass that initial donation goal. Now, at the conclusion of our fundraiser on May 31st, we are proud to announce that thanks to the collective support of our Scouting community, locally and throughout the nation, we have sold an impressive 1,300 shoulder patches and raised a total of $32,500 for the “Bridging the Gap Fund” being administered by the United Way of Central Maryland.

Your response to this call for action has been nothing short of inspiring. The “Maryland Tough – Baltimore Strong” patch symbolizes more than just our resilience; it represents the unwavering spirit and commitment of our Scouting family to mobilize for the greater good. Each patch purchased not only commemorates the strength of our community but also goes directly towards aid for those who need it most during this challenging time.

I want to extend my thanks to everyone who participated in this important fund drive.  Whether you bought a patch, spread the word, or supported this outreach in other ways, your contribution has made a difference. It is a testament to the positive impact that we, as a Scouting family, can achieve when we come together with a common purpose.

As we continue to navigate the aftermath of the bridge collapse, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting one another and our community. The funds raised will go a long way towards providing relief and rebuilding the lives of those most affected. Thank you once again for your extraordinary support and generosity. Together, we have shown that we are indeed “Maryland Tough – Baltimore Strong.”

As always if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns let me know.
