Membership Monday: Have You Updated Your Unit Pin Lately?

Item #1

Hi everyone! This is Marianna from the Baltimore Area Council, BSA and today, I want to talk to you about updating your Unit pin. This is something that all Key Three Members of your Unit have access to. So that’s your Committee Chair, your Chartered Org Rep, your Scoutmaster, Cub master, or Venturing Crew Advisor or Skipper all have access to this.

The way that you’re going to do it is: You’re going to log in to My.Scouting. Then you’re going to click Organization Manager and select your Unit pin. And then from there, you’ll get a screen that will give you some information. You’ll see a map. You’ll see addresses. And what you’re going to do is you’re going to update all of that information. In the box at the bottom that says, “Additional Information,” we recommend including something like a Welcome statement. A Welcome Statement is something like “Pack 445 is for Girls and Boys in Kindergarten through 5th grade!”

Number two, we recommend including your meeting information. Where do you meet? When do you meet? What time do you meet? Try giving the address, describing the building, those kinds of things.

Number three, make sure that you’ve included a contact person. Make sure that that’s a current person. So for example, for more information, please contact Vincent Rapa. Then, include your unit website: a link to your unit website or Facebook page. So, if somebody wants to find out more about your unit, they can. Once you’ve updated all of that, you’ll see an option, for fields to display on a unit pin, you’re going to toggle those. Whichever ones you want to show. So, if you don’t want your unit meeting address to show or you know, somebody’s phone number or what have you, you can toggle and decide which ones. If they’re all blue, that means they’re all being shared. When they are gray, that means they’re not being shared. And then you’re going to go ahead and click save. As soon as you click save that unit pin is going to be updated. It’s going to be live and this is going to help families to really get some high quality information when they’re searching for units on BeAScout.
